Literary Tuesday

Robert Frost's birthday was yesterday, so today's Literary Tuesday
entry will be one of his poems.  Ifound it here along with many others.

I took the pictures (not exactly fitting with the poem!) on a hike
my friend Rachel and I made to Heather Lake two years ago.

Spring Pools
These pools that, though in forests, still reflect
The total sky almost without defect,
And like the flowers beside them, chill and shiver,
Will like the flowers beside them soon be gone,
And yet not out by any brook or river,
But up by roots to bring dark foliage on.
The trees that have it in their pent-up buds
To darken nature and be summer woods---
Let them think twice before they use their powers
To blot out and drink up and sweep away
These flowery waters and these watery flowers
From snow that melted only yesterday.

Day 86 - 3/26/12 I Forgot To Remember To Forget

If there was a song called "How Stephanie Confuses Herself at Work," that would be more fitting.

Also, "Stephanie Cannot Draw to Scale" would suit.

Day 85 - Tomorrow will Be Kinder

...I hope, for Katniss' sake!

I went to see The Hunger Games with friends, before reading the book, and, well, I was a little surprised by how disturbing I found it to be after hearing so many great reviews.

But it was also so interesting.

And now I have to know how the series ends!  I just started reading it last night.

Day 84 - 3/24/12 This Is a Happy Little Ditty

Happy Birthday, Dad!

What a lovely, even sometimes sunny, day!
My family came down to our house to celebrate.

My sister and I made Salsa Chicken for dinner,

with home-made ice cream

and brownies for dessert!

And it was a joint-effort to screen print a pink salmon on shirt for him as a gift.
The little guy makes me hungry!

Megan, this was my sad attempt at taking a picture of the moon :)

Family Friday 11

It's time again for another screen print of a family member!

Today's entry is:

Nicole!

I feel a teeeensy bit guilty for having snapped a picture of Nicole gazing over the edge of the dock up at Esperanza this summer after promising not to take her picture (it was the only one, though - promise!), but she looked so contemplative whilst waiting for the fish to bite.

I have very fond memories of baby Nicole.  I don't even know how many hours were spent playing with her, laughing with her and watching her discover her world, but they were some very sweet times.

These days I often see Nicole drawing up a storm!
Like so many other people in this family, she's immensely talented!

Day 83 - 3/23/12 Silent Goodbye

See the cat sitting in the only sunny spot in the living room?
I was a little sad to leave home and go to work this morning, but it
has turned out to be a great day so far!
I am officially booked for my first trip to England later this year and it's a beautiful, sunny Friday!
Tomorrow I get to spend time with my family for my father's birthday,
so it should be a great weekend, too!

Day 82 - 3/22/12 Family Tree

It's not family tree, but the Windsor Family Tree.
Why?
Why not!

I had a British themed birthday last year and my friend Coco made this lovely family tree of the royal family for the party.  I love history and I love all things British (well, most things!) and this was one of my favorite decorations.

Day 81 - Everything's Right

Such a lovely, lovely sky this evening!

Day 80 - Stare At the Sun

Every day on my way to work I think that this lovely mossy tree
branch would be a nice subject for a picture.
Unfortunately I've never paid much attention to how many other bushes
and trees are in front of it!  This is from the least-obstructed view point:

It was still a nice evening for a walk.
Or swim.

Literary Tuesday

Hooray, it's Spring!
I'm so glad.

Here's a William Morris poem, or at least part of it.  My sister found it in a magazine.

Spring.
Spring am I, too soft of heart
Much to speak ere I depart:
Ask the Summer-tide to prove
The abundance of my love.

Summer.
Summer looked for long am I;
Much shall change or e'er I die.
Prithee take it not amiss
Though I weary thee with bliss.

Autumn.
Laden Autumn here I stand
Worn of heart, and weak of hand:
Nought but rest seems good to me,
Speak the word that sets me free.

Winter.

I am Winter, that do keep
Longing safe amidst of sleep:
Who shall say if I were dead
what should be remembered?

Day 79 - 3/19/12 Yes!

Plenty with which I can replenish my depleted supply at work!

Day 77 - 3/17/12 Tired

Too tired to get out my camera and take a decent picture on this Saturday.
I was lazy (took a nice nap; took no shower), but also very productive (pruned all the roses, wisteria, honeysuckle, and elderberry; did some laundry; made popovers; prepared for study at church on Sunday) so I feel calm and ready to face the world on Monday!

Day 78 - 3/18/12 Do-Re-Mi

Day 76 - 3/16/12 Daydreamer

Leaving work on Friday evening with perfect sunshine, the bubbling stream and pretty trees.
Spring is almost here!

Today I am thankful for...

...the sunshine!  I think that's already a repeat, but I'm constantly thankful for sunny days.  I like the rain, too, but it's so much nicer to walk in the sun.  I'm hoping it sticks around today until at least 7:30 so I can get a nice walk in tonight!

Family Friday - 10

It's Family Friday

I've realized most of my fabrics are pretty girly, which doesn't suit too well as this week we have another male entry:

Andrew!

And Maxx!

It's from an amazing picture Megan took (hope it's okay I used your photo!).

 Andrew's the coolest.
Or at least one of the coolest in a family full of cool people!

He's smart, funny, tall, and, you can't tell from this picture, but he has the most amazing eyelashes.

He and our cousin Justin performed last month as a fundraiser for their marching band trip and it was wonderful. I loved hearing those guys play and sing.  More, please!!

This one was a fail - I tried to use my new silver ink and it clogged up the finer lines on the screen.
It's kind of ghostly.  But I'm still posting it because I like it

Day 75 - 3/15/12 It Will Rain

Another lovely day in the Pacific Northwest!

Day 74 - 3/14/12 Common Threads

After a few weeks of feeling uninspired creatively, I got busy
last night spiffing up a plain white dish towel.
I love the blue of the pre-mixed photo emulsion!
Before:
 After:
The quote on the screen is from a conversation from The Vicar of Dibley between vicar Geraldine Granger and her rather scatter-brained verger, Alice Tinker.
I think it's perfect on a kitchen accessory!
I modified it a bit to make it fit the screen.
(I've posted it at the end, below if you cannot read it here.)
Trying to find a color close enough to yellow (since the quote's about butter!) that's
still dark enough to read.  I settled on a nice orange-y yellow.
I saw after that I didn't tape off enough and got a nice little orange stripe on the
left side, but, that's how it goes!

Alice Tinker: You know that stuff that they're selling now at the local shop?
Geraldine Granger: Which stuff?
AT: I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.
GG: Oh, yeah.
AT: Well, you know, I can't believe it's not butter.
GG: Yeah, well, I believe that is the idea.
AT: Then yesterday I went to Kirkenden and I bought this other stuff, like a sort of home brand, you know.
GG: Yes?
AT: And, you know, I can't believe it's not I Can't Believe It's Not Butter.
GG: Mmmm?  [pause
GG: I'm losing you now.
AT: Oh, right. Well, you know I Can't Believe It's Not Butter?
GG: Yeah, yeah, yeah, you think it is butter.
AT: No, no. I mean, you know the stuff that I can't believe is not butter is called I Can't Believe It's Not Butter?
GG: Probably, yeah, yeah.
AT: Well, I can't believe the stuff that is not I Can't Believe It's Not Butter is not I Can't Believe It's Not Butter. And I can't believe that both I Can't Believe It's Not Butter and the stuff that I can't believe is not I Can't Believe It's Not Butter are both, in fact, not butter. And I believe... they both might be butter... in a cunning disguise. And, in fact, there's a lot more butter around than we all thought there was.
GG: Yeah.  You see, I don't know what you're talking about, but I'm sure God does and is intrigued by the whole thing.
