Day 58 - 2/27/12 The Simple Things in Life

It's normal for a 34 year old to be playing with her brother's Lego's instead of going to bed at a reasonable hour on a work night, is it not?
 I love their colorful shields,
 awesome headgear,
 split personalities,
 pirate-y get-ups,
 fierce stares,
 ginger beards,
and awesome plumage.
These two little guys will take no prisoners.

Family Friday - 7

It's Family Friday!
 Hooray!!

I've come to love working on this weekly posting very much.  Even when it doesn't turn out perfect!
I have even started to plan my weeknight activities around prepping and completing these prints.  It's taking over my life!

Not really.

But back to Family Friday.
Today we have entry #7 - Annie!
Annie is beautiful, bold and brilliant.
And a little zany, in the most wonderful way, of course!
There's even an entire room dedicated to her at Happiness Hill House.
We call it... "Annie's room."

Well, maybe I should clarify by saying that I'm currently living in the house Annie grew up in, and since no one lives in it we still refer to it as Annie's room.  It's not a shrine, by any stretch of the imagination, but the painted border along the ceiling and the lime green shelves remind me of her whenever I venture in there (which is everyday to feed the cat).
I have lots of happy, silly memories of having fun, just being one of Annie's older cousins, and I look forward to many more to come!

Today I am thankful for...

...sweaters.  It's a nice day for a cozy sweater!

Day 54 - 2/23/12 The More I See You

These pictures are of both sides of the piece of foam board I've
been using under the fabric whilst screen printing.

I kind of like it.  I think I'll keep it!

Today I am thankful for....

...great books.
I was reading Unbroken, by Laura Hillenbrand around this time last year, during Lent.
It's so good!

Day 53 - 2/22/12 Waiting On the World to Change

I'm not so patient when it comes to waiting for spring, so it's
lovely to see signs of new life popping up all around!

Day 52 - 2/21/12 Bridge Over Troubled Water

Lots of troubled water in the creek near work!

Monday, February 20, 2012

Today I am thankful for....

...sweet potatoes.
Especially in fried form!

Day 51 - 2/20/12 Seize the Day

Two Mondays in a row with a surprise lunch at Taco Time!

Last week my lovely mother took my sister and me out for lunch on a whim.

Today I went with my cousins Emily and Kiri,
(Sorry I caught you mid...chew?...Kir!)

their friend, Tim (thanks for modeling the new sweet potato mexi-fries even though we just met!),

and my sister, Melita.

Nothing better than breaking up the work day with people you love, yummy food and lots of laughs!

Day 50 - 2/19/12 I Know You By Heart

...little flower pattern!
Took some time and practice, but I finally have it down.

Day 49 - 2/18/20 Canned Heat

Movie night!
Love it when Napoleon dances!!

Day 48 - 2/17/12 The Rose

A very sweet gift from one of the installers at work.

Family Friday - 6

Heeeeeerrre'sss....
Warren!
The first boy in this Family Friday series!

Doesn't he look happy?
I think so.
And he should, because he's awesome.

He's smart.
He's talented.
And quiet.
And quiet about his talent.
He's my youngest brother, and, as with all my siblings, I'm extremely proud of him.

Go Warren!

You rock!

(In case you were wondering, there is no pattern, no rhyme
or reason as to who's chosen week to week.
Just goin' with my feelings! )

Today I am thankful for....

...hot water!!
And I'm hoping that despite a dripping hot water tank there'll be plenty more hot water to come.
Hoping, hoping, hoping!

Day 47 - 2/16/12 Something Beautiful

Admiring all the Valentine's Day flowers left after the holiday.
Somehow it makes me both happy and sad.
I wish I could take them all home!
And then I remind myself that they don't have feelings and
that it's okay to walk away.

And to stop talking to myself.
And to put the camera away because people are looking.

(Good thing it isn't as popular to give puppies and kittens on V-day!)

Day 46 - 2/15/12 Up With the Birds

Well, I'm still trying to get a good picture of those crows!
Perhaps it'd work better outside of the car!  Hmm...
At least it's getting lighter in the evenings. Hooray!

Day 45 - 2/14/12 Yellow

Today I am thankful for....

...paint and paintbrushes!

Day 44 - 2/13/12 Life in Technicolor

My sister let me paint one of her cards.  She's been drawing and painting up a storm lately and it was fun to get in on the action.
I'll have to do show and tell of all her beautiful designs soon.

After:

Apparently I like bright colors!

Today I am thankful for....

...lotion.
And my current lack of papercuts.

Day 43 - 2/12/12 Colors

Isn't this a pretty salad?
I was not so excited about the beets, but it was actually quite yummy.
The guys in our singles group made the ladies dinner and this salad was part of the second course.  In addition to the beets (which I must say I appreciate solely for their color), I believe it contained parsnip and celery root and was mixed with mustard and something-that-I-cannot-remember, then topped with black sesame seeds and parsley.
Well done, men!

Day 42 - 2/11/12 Real World

Taxes?  Done.
Huzzah!

Day 41 - 2/10/12 On the Outside Looking In

Neighbor cat, neighbor cat, what are they feeding you?

Family Friday - 4 & 5

I have not one, but two entries for this week's Family Friday!

#4 - Megan!
One of my first memories of Megan was of her being punished for being naughty.  I doubt she remembers it as she was just a wee little thing, but oh, at the time, it made me laugh!
Is that horrid?
She's all grown up now and such a delight.  I love talking crafts and comparing movies with her.
I picked the closest-to-peackock-blue that I could find in my stash for her honor.

And #5 - Lori!
Unlike Megan, I don't have any memories of Lori being naughty as we were growing up!  She and my sister tended to be more well-behaved than her sister and me!
But some of my favorite memories are of the four of us playing as children and pretending to be characters from Jem and the Holograms, eating sour grass and laughing when we were supposed to be quiet.
(Does "the table bit me!" bring back any memories?)
Lori personifies grace and crafting cleverness and I love hanging out with her, too!
I want to say that I'm not 100% pleased with part of her face on this as I was guessing on how to work with the light and shadows, so, I think I'll revisit hers later, too.
But that's kind of fun and is helping me learn more about what to do/what not to do!  So, Lori, don't worry if you don't like it!  Megan, you're stuck with yours! :)

Today I am thankful for....

...windshield wipers!
As simple as that.

Today I am thankful for....

...movie night!

Day 39 - 2/8/12 Up With the Birds

Several evenings each week around dusk, for months now, the crows fly in.
Thousands of them!
I used to think it was creepy, especially when walking and being surrounded by them.
But now I find it more fascinating than frightening.
This is the best shot, and it only reflects 12.  And possibly a flying one.  Or is that the crack on my windshield?

And here's the next best shot.  Haha.

I understand from an article on the Bothell-Reporter.com that it will decrease come spring, so I hope to get a few more (and better) pictures before then!

Day 40 - 2/9/12 Time Is...

Flying!
Which means it's time to make time cards again.
It's one of my favorite tasks because 1) it has a beginning and an end, and 2) there's a tangible result.
Plus I get to use a Sharpie!

I'd almost say it was brainless, but when I get distracted this happens:

Oh, the horror!  Poor forgotten Tuesday.

But otherwise I enjoy printing off and attaching the labels, marking off the days, and finally putting them in their cozy little homes.
